Are you planning to have a wedding over a long holiday weekend? According to experts, there are a lot of things you need to consider before you make this decision. You might get the advantage of it being a holiday, but you also get some extra work because of the same reason. Here are some things to keep in mind if you’re planning to have your nuptials on the long weekend!
The Best Days
According to Anna Lee, a wedding planner, the ideal day on a long weekend to host the ceremony is Saturday. But it also depends on the kind of industry the majority of your guests work in, said Krystal Gardenia, founder of Gardenia Weddings. If they work from Monday to Friday, then Saturday is your best choice, as it will allow the guests to head back either on Sunday or Monday. But if the majority works in the hospitality industry, Saturday is kind of out of the picture for them, especially on holidays; in such a case, Thursday or Sunday is best.
Which Holiday Weekend to Pick?
Choosing a holiday to get married on can be difficult. For some, a non-party weekend is a no-go, but Lee prefers it because it allows most of the guests to attend the ceremony. According to Krystal, Memorial Day has been one of the most popular choices for couples to host their wedding, as the weather is also pleasant during that time. She advises couples against going on big holidays like Christmas or Thanksgiving.
Guest Conveniences
Planning a wedding on a holiday definitely has some drawbacks, especially when it comes to the cost. Everything is on the expensive side when it’s the holiday season, be it the hotels or the flight tickets. While most of your close relatives will be ecstatic to stay free on your special day, the distant ones might have some plans. Therefore, it’s always better to give them ample time to prepare ahead and clear their schedules. The best part of planning a wedding around a holiday is that it gives your guests a chance to extend their trip and spend some quality time with the family.
Cost and Availability of Vendors
Another thing that you need to figure out is the availability of vendors during the holiday season. Gardenia says that a lot of florists may not take orders around days like Mother’s Day because they are already slammed with work, and those who do agree might charge a higher fee because of the high demand. To avoid such issues, you can plan things in advance and ask the venue in charge to let you set things up a day before for vendors to avoid working on a holiday.
What About a Theme Wedding
Expert Lee is completely against the idea of theme weddings inspired by holidays like the Fourth of July or picking colors like red and white around Christmas. On the other hand, if you’re set on setting a theme, Krystal advises taking inspiration from holidays but then creating something classy and subtle with it and not going for something typical and common.
