Wedding dress shopping can be an expensive endeavor and often exceed the set budget that you’re working with. Get inspired by Veronika “Kika” Lindberg, a bride who knit the dress of her dreams for her big day. She chose to bring her imagination into reality all by herself for when she tied the knot with Jukka Heino on September 10, 2022.
The Search
Instead of wandering across bridal salons, Lindberg chose to give herself a wedding challenge and decided to come up with a never-seen-before kind of wedding dress. Just seven weeks before her wedding, she posted to the internet that she would be knitting her own dress and had gotten 5.5 pounds of yarn for the project. Her main sources of inspiration were Ulla Johnson and Dior. While she was doing her research on the internet, she came across crocheted dresses from these brands and it was exactly what she wanted. Thereafter, she started working on the sketches and tried different styles, laces, and patterns. She decided on a tight-fitted top and a draped bottom pattern, but took some time in finalizing the fabric.
The Dreamy Outfit
It took Lindberg 45 days, 250 hours, and only $300 to make her dreamy outfit. Lindberg stated that knitting has always been a therapeutic process for her and hence helped her cope with wedding preparation stress. Since too much was happening too soon, from shifting places to planning every tiny detail of the wedding, knitting her wedding dress was something that kept her going. Lindberg’s Instagram fam, her husband, and family — everybody fell in love with the dress. Since she kept her internet family involved throughout the process via Instagram and YouTube, people were amazed by what she pulled off. She also inspired many to learn or go back to knitting.
