Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are two of the most famous women in the world right now, and it’s fair to say that all eyes have been on them since they made their debut within the Royal Family. While we’re happy to hear that both of their marriages are progressing and that they are still madly in love with their Princes, we also can’t quite get enough of their engagement rings. After all, Prince William and Harry don’t do things by halves. But have you ever wondered how much Meghan and Kate’s engagement rings are really worth?
Kate Middleton made her entrance into the Royal Family long before Meghan Markle, and being the love interest of the future King of England certainly has its perks. This is especially true when it comes to her engagement ring because Kate Middleton was graced with a ring from Princess Diana’s private collection. In fact, it was once Princess Diana’s engagement ring! Featuring a beautiful blue sapphire and oodles of diamonds around it, Kate Middleton’s ring is big and bold, and utterly stunning. When Princess Diana first chose it for herself when Charles popped the question in 1981, it cost them £28,500 (over $37,000). Since then, it’s only gone up in value, and is now expected to be worth over £300,000 (nearly $400,000)!
As the newest member of the Royal Family, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring is still fairly fresh from the jewelers. This beautiful ring is laden with diamonds of various sizes, and it’s been noted that Prince Harry actually designed the ring himself! He sourced the large center diamond from Botswana and then used smaller diamonds from his late mother’s collection to bulk up the rest of the band. Because of this, it’s been suggested that her engagement ring could be worth up to £122,500 (just over $161,000).
While there’s no doubt about the fact that Kate Middleton’s engagement ring was much more expensive than her sister-in-law’s, it’s not always about the price. Everyone has their own taste and their own favorite styles, so it’s down to you as to which one you prefer. Do you like the bold look with the blue sapphire? Or the more understated and traditional look of Meghan’s?
