Christopher Neufeld got down on one knee on March 23, 2018, to ask Maanasa Indaram for her hand in marriage. Though the multicultural couple had been together for 4 ½ years, the engagement came as a complete surprise for Maanasa.

East Met West at this Beautiful Multicultural Wedding

The wedding date was set for the following spring in New York, near both of their families’ homes. Everything about the wedding was a mix of both traditional Indian and Western culture to appeal to both parties and their families - from stationery, which featured creative cartoons of the lovely couple in their wedding outfits and Indian wedding customs, to the food that was served at the reception.

The Best of Both Traditions

Both Maanasa and Christopher wore traditional Indian attire for the ceremony, along with the rest of the wedding party. As Chris and his family walked up the hill to meet Maanasa’s family, they were greeted with flower garlands.

Maanasa, to incorporate both sides of her family, walked down the aisle with two paternal uncles and two maternal uncles. Something out of the ordinary for her tradition was that her father walked her down the aisle. It was a Western tradition that he had always wanted to do.

The multicultural couple had chosen to write their own vows, which included notes about their time spent long distance. They honored the Indian traditions during their vows and, of course, shared their first kiss.

After the ceremony, Maanasa changed into a beautiful white wedding dress and Chris into a lovely blue suit with the couple’s wedding date monogrammed on it. The newlyweds and their guests enjoyed cocktail hour by munching on fresh produce and featured cheeses. The food at the reception included seasonal vegetarian pasta, roasted chicken, wild salmon, and green market salad. Desserts included salted brownies, carrot cakes, funfetti macarons, and mini oreo milkshakes.

The couple made the most out of their multicultural views and joined together as one.
