A Huge Spread

Joe and Kayley Tilson had tied the knot and were about to celebrate their marriage with their guests. The couple had a huge array of food on offer, including plenty of fish, chicken, pork ribs, ox, and even vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan meals. It looked as though they had something for everyone.

Avoiding The Waste

The best bit? The newlyweds later announced that all of their food was once destined for the trash. The couple used a company called The Real Junk Food who collect waste food that has been mislabeled, over-ordered, or has passed its sell-by date from supermarkets before repurposing the meals.

Saving Some Money

That wasn't all. Joe and Kayley initially thought they would have to spend £25 (approx. $30) on food per person for their wedding - and they had over 300 guests. Thankfully, helping to save the planet also saved them some money as the pair only spent around £5 (approx $6) per person in the end.

Not The Only Change

Their wedding spread was only the beginning. Many of the decorations had been donated by Joe's friends, while Kayley's floral headband was made from extra flowers at a florist. The backdrop to the venue was an old room divider, and Kayley hopes to alter her wedding dress so she can wear it again.

It turns out that weddings could be more eco-friendly than many of us ever imagined. In fact, this couple's move proves that we can have our wedding breakfast, and eat it too - all while saving the planet!
