A 32-year woman, Katy Collins, dubbed the “backpacking Bridget Jones,” has given birth to a baby daughter. She launched her blog called “Not Wed or Dead” after being dumped by Thomas Soutter — her fiancé — just three months before their wedding, in May 2012.
Katy Collins’ Story
Soutter and Collins met as students at Salford University. They moved in together after graduating and became engaged a few years later. On her blog, she decided to ditch weddings for wanderlust after being dumped. She felt confused, heartbroken, and a little disillusioned with where life was heading. She then made a brave decision to quit her job in public relations, sold her car, house, and anything else that would not fit into a big backpack before jetting off on her own.
Her Traveling Experience

After climbing Volcanoes in Chile, trekking through the Himalayas, and sleeping in a jungle somewhere in Thailand, the story of Collins went viral, with newspapers across the globe sharing her story and printing pictures of the dumped bride on her travels.
Katy Collins’ Perfect Revenge
She has recently transformed recognition into commercial success. Collins published a series of bestselling novels with the title “The Lonely Hearts Travel Club,” inspired by her travels. She recently married John Skiddle, age 31. He is a former reporter in Liverpool Echo, in an intimate ceremony in Coventry. She documented the occasion in a blog post entitled, “The Perfect Wedding I Never Thought I Would Have.” She wore a £200 high street bridal dress, and the reception was at a local pub — the perfect revenge.
Collins claims that she is living in a real-life rom-com. She went through being jobless, single, and broke to being able to make a life in France and see the world. Her dreams continue to come true because she became a published author, allowing people to peek into her wedding day.
